I found the Daily Sentinel’s lead editorial for July 31, “Political reality turns House Republicans green,” to be quite interesting.

One of the organizations which no doubt is helping to bring this change about is Republicans for Environmental Protection. It maintains a very informative and up-to-date web site located at www.rep.org.

REP stresses the fact that “conservative” and “conservation” are compatible philosophies. It also emphasizes to conservative national leaders that many of the greatest steps taken to preserve the environment were taken by Republicans such as Theodore Roosevelt, Calvin Coolidge, Herbert Hoover, Dwight Eisenhower and Richard Nixon. And, it reminds these same leaders that not only do many conservatives feel strongly about preserving the environment, they vote accordingly.
